Pricing and FAQ

How water softener pricing works in the Treasure Valley

Every home's water and plumbing are different, so we don't quote from a list. We test your water first, then give you a written quote in person. Here's what moves the price and what every install includes.

What moves the price

These are the things that change what a system costs in a Treasure Valley home. Your test results tell us which ones apply to you.

FactorWhy it matters
Hardness and ironHarder water needs more softening capacity. Iron or manganese can call for a filter ahead of the softener.
City water or a wellCity water here is often hard and chlorinated. A well may need more than one stage, designed from a certified lab test.
Home size and bathroomsMore people and more bathrooms mean more water use. The system has to keep up when two showers run at once.
Flow rateWe size the tank and valve to your home's peak flow, so water pressure holds up and every gallon gets treated.
Existing softener loopMany newer valley homes have a loop already plumbed in the garage. Without one, we run new lines from the main, which adds time and materials.
Salt or salt-freeA water softener and a salt-free system use different equipment and do different jobs. We explain the trade-offs at your test.
Drinking water add-onReverse osmosis at the kitchen sink, plus an optional line to the refrigerator, adds to the total.
Plumbing changesPipe material, access and how far away the drain and outlet are all change the labor. We look at where the system will go during your water test, so your quote covers it.

We only suggest what your test supports. Your written quote lists the equipment, the install work and the total.

What comes with every system

Your quote covers the system and the install. Ongoing care is there when you want it.

Before the install

  • A free in-home water test on city water. Wells get a certified lab test, which has a lab fee.
  • Your results explained in plain language
  • A written quote, priced in person after testing

On install day

  • Install by licensed journeyman plumbers, usually in about 2 hours
  • A whole-home plumbing check
  • A system set up for your water test results and your household

For years after

  • A limited lifetime warranty that stays active with our yearly annual service
  • Annual service visits that include a water heater flush and a full plumbing inspection
  • Salt refills and retesting when you want them

Why we quote in person

A price that fits your home

Two houses on the same street can need different systems. Hardness, plumbing and how many people live in the home all change the answer, and the price with it.

A number over the phone would be a guess. We'd rather test your water, look at where the system will go and give you a price that fits. You get it in writing at your water test.

Take the quote home, compare it and decide on your own time. No pressure.

Common questions

Can you give me a price over the phone?

Not an accurate one. The right system depends on your hardness, your plumbing and your household. We test first, price in person and put the quote in writing at your water test.

How long does an install take?

Most standard installs take about 2 hours. Well systems with several stages can take longer, and we tell you the plan before we start.

How much maintenance does a softener need?

Keep the salt above the water line in the brine tank and glance at it once a month. Beyond that, an annual service keeps it tuned. Most homes add salt every 4 to 6 months, and if you'd rather not, text us and we'll top it off.

How much salt will I use?

It depends on your hardness, your household and how the softener is set. We set it to use salt efficiently, so most homes add salt only every 4 to 6 months, and we tell you what to expect after your test. A softener adds a small amount of sodium, so if you’re on a low-sodium diet you can use potassium chloride instead, or drink reverse osmosis water.

What’s the warranty?

Every system we install comes with a limited lifetime warranty. It stays active as long as the system gets our yearly annual service.

Do I really need a water test before a quote?

Yes. Hardness, iron and household size decide what size system you need, and guessing leads to the wrong equipment. On city water the test is free. Wells get a certified lab test, which has a lab fee. Book a test here.

Can I pay monthly?

Yes. Monthly payment options are available and most people qualify. Ask about them at your water test, or see financing.

Are there costs after install?

A few, and we go over them at your water test. Softeners use salt, reverse osmosis filters and membranes get changed on a schedule, UV lamps get replaced yearly, and annual service keeps your limited lifetime warranty active.

Do you service softeners you didn't install?

Yes. We service any brand of water softener, not only the ones we install.

What areas do you serve?

The whole Treasure Valley from Boise west to Fruitland, including Star, Middleton, Eagle, Meridian, Nampa and Caldwell. See service areas.

I rent. Can I still get better water?

Anything that ties into the plumbing needs the owner’s OK. A drinking water system at the kitchen sink is a smaller change that many owners approve, and we’re glad to talk it through with your landlord.

Do I need a softener and a drinking water system?

They do different jobs. A softener handles hardness for the whole house, and reverse osmosis treats drinking and cooking water at one tap. Many homes pair them, and soft water feeding the RO system helps its membrane last.
