Our story

Why our owner started Soft Water Specialist

Our owner grew up on a ranch where the family's water came from a well. His mother had health problems that were linked to arsenic in that well water.

Arsenic has no color, taste or smell. The only way to know it's there is to test for it, and on a private well, nobody tests unless the owner does.

He is also sensitive to the chlorine in city water. So he has lived with both kinds of water, the private well out in the country and the treated tap in town.

He started Soft Water Specialist to help families learn what is in their water and fix it for the whole home, with straight answers and no pressure.

What we stand for

Three ideas behind every job

Learn first, buy second

You should understand your water before you spend a dollar on it. We show you each result, what it means and which ones matter for your home.

Treat the whole home

Hard water and chlorine reach every faucet, shower and appliance. We size systems for the whole house, then add a drinking water tap in the kitchen where it makes sense.

No pressure, ever

You get a written quote at your water test and time to think it over. If your water doesn't need treatment, we'll tell you that too.

How we work

Every customer gets the same four steps, whether you're on city water or a well.

  1. We test your water

On city water, we come to your home for a free water test that checks hardness, pH, TDS, nitrates and chlorine. On a well, we set up a certified lab test, and results take about a week.

  2. We explain the results

We sit down with you and go through each number in plain language, next to the limit or range it's measured against. Then we give you a written quote for the fix we'd suggest.

  3. Licensed plumbers install it

Licensed journeyman plumbers do every install. Each one includes a whole-home plumbing check, so you hear about any problem we spot while we're there.

  4. We look after it for years

We help with salt when you want it, service your system once a year and retest your water, so you know it's still doing its job. Your system is backed by a limited lifetime warranty, which stays active with your yearly annual service.

The crew

Licensed journeyman plumbers on every install

A water softener or filter ties into your home's main water line. A sloppy connection can mean leaks or low pressure for years, so we treat every install as real plumbing work.

That's why licensed journeyman plumbers handle our installs. A typical install takes about 2 hours.

Every install also comes with a whole-home plumbing check. If our plumber sees something that needs attention, we'll show you and explain your options, with no obligation.

Our equipment

Systems proven across the Northwest

The systems we install have been trusted across the Northwest for over 30 years. The line covers the kinds of water we see here, from hard groundwater to chlorinated city water to wells with iron, sulfur or arsenic.

We match the technology to your test results. A house on hard, chlorinated city water needs something different from a ranch well with iron staining, and we'll explain why.

See how each system works on our solutions page.
